EndNote is a citation management software program that allows the user to create, gather and store bibliographic citations. It also has provisions for taking notes and attaching files (PDFs, word documents, illustrations, movies) that correspond to the citation. The fields in EndNote are searchable, including "all fields" to retrieve desired citations, including the text of PDFs.
EndNote integrates with Word to produce bibliographies, or more usefully, perhaps, to insert citations as the user writes a paper, thesis or dissertation. Using the output styles available, the user can insert the citations in a variety of formats: APA, MLA, Chicago or others for individual journals. Cite-While-You-Write works for in-text citations or footnotes.
EndNote software is available free to students, faculty, students staff under the University's license agreement with Thomson Reuters. Download the Windows or Mac version from IUware Online.
